What Not To Do After Botox
Everyone gets wrinkles as they age but how many and how severe will depend on things like, how expressive your face is, genetics, whether you are a smoker or spend time in the sun to get a tan. Our skin gets drier, thinner and becomes less elastic as we age. We produce less collagen so our skin becomes less plump making wrinkles more pronounced.
There are many ways to help reduce the onset of wrinkles – from creams to diet and lifestyle changes. A very effective way to reduce them is by having regular Botox injections. Botox injections reduce wrinkles and frown lines by temporarily freezing the facial muscles. Once you have had the treatment what should you avoid doing directly after? Find out below.
How long does it take for Botox to kick in?
Botox is not instant. It will be working straight away, but it can take a week before you notice changes to your face. Avoid touching your face for at least 24 hours after your treatment. You don’t want to move the Botox around.
After 24 hours, we recommend that you exercise your facial muscles – smile, frown, screw up your face. This can help speed up the affects of Botox. This is great if you have left your Botox treatment to the last minute and you want to look your best for a certain event.
Botox usually lasts between three to four months. Think about getting treatments every season to keep the wrinkles at bay.
Can I exercise after Botox?
Avoid physical exercise for at least 24 hours after your treatment. The movements could cause your Botox to shift to other muscles in your face. To achieve the result you want, your practitioner injected the Botox in specific locations. You don’t want to treat the wrong sections of your face!
Can I drink after Botox?
Drinking alcohol can increase the risk of bruising because it thins the blood. Avoid it for 24 hours after and don’t plan any big nights out for the same day. You are allowed to drink non-alcoholic beverages though. Lots of water to help avoid headaches (a common Botox side effect) – especially if you have had Botox injected into your forehead. Taking ibuprofen or Tylenol is OK too.
How long after Botox can I lay down?
We recommend you don’t lay down on your face for 24 hours after treatment. This could shift the Botox to other areas. Stay upright for as long as possible after the treatment and when you sleep, stay on your back.
Can I get a facial after Botox?
We recommend that you wait at least 24 hours after Botox to get any facial treatments. You should avoid massaging or rubbing of the areas where the Botox was injected. Also be aware that having a facial a few days after Botox could lead to bruising. We would recommend that you wait a week before undergoing any facial procedure.
What about another facial cosmetic procedure?
As with a facial, anything that involves deeper skin treatments such as micro needling or Broadband Laser Therapy (BBL) should be avoided for at least a week. Your Botox practitioner will advise you of what you should avoid and help create a treatment plan if you wish to have multiple facial procedures.
Can I fly after Botox?
You are able to fly directly after having Botox. The air pressure in an airplane cabin is the same as the air pressure outside your home. For this reason there is no need to wait.
