How Has Aging Affected You?
What to Expect from Your Mommy Makeover Consultation and Treatment

EXAMINATION OF WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

As reviewed in previous pages, your treatment options for your mommy makeover will depend largely on how your body has changed after having babies and what are your primary concerns.

The mommy makeover procedure is a cosmetic procedure tailored specifically to your needs and wishes determined at your consultation.

Most women will choose to have a breast augmentation with or without a breast lift, an abdominoplasty with or without liposuction, and and a vaginal rejuvenation procedure.  Some patients will even have minor facial rejuvenation procedures such as botox and fillers.

PRICING?

The cost of your procedure will vary greatly depending on the procedure combination that you need.  You will receive a price quote at the end of your consultation.  Prices will include Dr. Chang’s surgical fee, surgery center fees, anesthesia fees, and material costs such as bras, compression garments, and breast implants.

We are very sensitive to pricing as we are the first to say that prices can add up.  For this reason, discounts are given for multiple procedures performed on the same date.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES and PREPARATION

Prior to your procedure, your pictures will be taken for documentation purposes.  Face procedure are never published without your specific written consent.  These images are used to follow your progress over the 3-12 month recovery period.

Most patients will meet with the Karen, the surgical coordinator, after your consultation.  She is there to help you with all your administrative and procedural questions.

She will start by giving you a written quote for the procedures that you discussed with Dr. Chang during your consultation.  These can always change, of course.

She is also responsible for scheduling your preoperative visit, surgery, and initial postoperative appointment.  Feel free to call with any questions during this entire process.

HOSPITAL AND SURGERY CENTER

The vast majority of surgeries are performed either INOVA Loudon Hospital or the Loudoun Ambulatory Surgery Center.  Both facilities are accredited premier INOVA facilities with board certified Anesthesia.

PREPARATION

Patients will be called by the surgical center prior to their procedures to give them more specific questions.  In general, however, they will want you to be at the facility 1 hour prior to your procedure; and tell you not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before.

Patients should also optimize their recovery by eating well and taking vitamins ( except for vitamin E and fish oils ) prior to their procedures.

Patients should also avoid aspirin and aspirin products including advil and motrin 10 days prior to surgery.

While some patients will see results after only a month, most patients will need about 2-3 months. We will set up a follow-up appointment for 12 weeks later. We will ALWAYS be happy to see or talk to you prior to our standard appointment schedule.

At your follow-up, we will take your after-photos and weigh you. These are taken to show you your amazing transformation. 80% of patients are so thrilled, they will go on to have a DIFFERENT area treated.

The area will be swollen for a few days to a week.

The frozen fat cells will slowly begin to be broken down by the body and metabolized through your liver little by liver over time,

Bruising is NORMAL for a few days.

The area will feel numb and tingle for a few weeks after the treatment. Let the tingling remind you of how much better it was going to look in a few short weeks!

COOLCULPTING IS COLD

Coolsculpting is cold… really cold. You will feel the applicator pull your skin into the device, beginning the process of cooling down your skin. The sensation is similar to an ice pack placed over your skin.

Eventually the area will feel numb. Most patients tell us that the procedure is NOT painful.

COOLCULPTING WILL TAKE ABOUT 30 MINUTES

Your coolsculpting will take about 30 minutes per area. Because we have invested in 2 devices, we are one of the only treatment centers in Northern Virginia that can treat 2 areas at a time, we can treat 2 areas in 30 minutes. We really want you to get out of the office and back to your life.

To make your time with us comfortable, we have made your treatment room as comfortable as possible, equipped with a large screen TV so that you can take your mind off of coolsculpting machine sucking on your fat. No kids, no husband, no chores, just quiet… Or watch TV, listen to a your Alexa music playlist, or read a book. Your choice.

MASSAGING THE FAT

A bell will signal the end of your procedure. The handpiece will be removed. The treatment area will appear red and irritated. How do your hand look when you play in the snow?

The nurse will begin massaging the area. This part is slightly uncomfortable. How do your hands feel after you come in from playing with the snow without gloves?

She will vigorously massage the area to break up any crystallized fat. The massaging process helps break up the crystalized fat cells and increases the effect of the treatment by 68%!! Isn’t that amazing?

VISUAL RESULTS

Visual results will obviously depend on what procedures that you have.  In general however, you will be moderately swollen after the procedure.  In general, swelling will take about 3 months to completely resolve.  It will be 6 months to 16 months for the tissue to completely settle.  Scars take about 1.5 years to completely flatten and whiten out.

You will be instructed to wear compression garments for at least 4 weeks after your surgery.

At your follow-up, we will take your after-photos and weigh you. These are taken to show you your amazing transformation. 80% of patients are so thrilled, they will go on to have a DIFFERENT area treated.

RETURN TO WORK

Your return to work will obviously depend on what procedures you you have and your pain tolerance level.  In general, patients having a breast procedure will be off work 5-10 days; patients having a tummy tuck will be off work for 10-14 days.  Patients having vaginal surgery will be off work for 5-10 days.

See individual procedures to be completely familiar with their unique complications and outcomes.    It is important for you to understand that procedures, even in the excellent hands of Dr. Chang are not free of complications given the nature of how the body heals and reacts.  The vast majority of procedures are safe and free of major problems.  The most common issues are minor problems with delayed healing that can be addressed in the office.

Patients are always responsible for the anesthesia and facility fees associated with revision surgery.  Patients who purchase revision insurance will pay only the deductible for the surgeon’s fee.
