Botox has become a common byword for those seeking ways to roll back the years to their youth. Gone is the stigma of use. People are now openly admitting to having Botox and scheduling their appointments in their lunch hours. Type A Botulinum toxin – to give its full name – is a muscle relaxer that temporarily freezes the movements of the underlying tissue and muscle.

Most people know that Botox is effective in making the user look refreshed and younger by reducing lines on the forehead and round the mouth. But do you know what else Botox can help with?

Botox Can Help Your Migraines

In 2010, the FDA approved the use of Botox to help relieve chronic migraines for adults who experienced more than 15 headaches a month. It is important to note it doesn’t work on all headache types. Doctors started looking into the idea that migraines can be relieved with Botox after patients having Botox in their foreheads for wrinkles were also finding their migraines were improving.

To treat migraines, Botox is injected around the pain fibers that are involved in headaches, blocking their release, and subsequent pain, when a migraine hits. Multiple treatments improve the results, but you would be required to keep the treatments up in order to keep your migraines at bay.

Because it is FDA approved, your insurance company may cover the treatment too. You would need to verify with your insurance company and Botox practitioner before undergoing treatment. Make sure you use a practitioner who is experienced in administering Botox for migraines.

Botox Can Help Your Foot Pain

More people are having Botox injected into the balls of their feet and fillers added to the soles of their feet to help alleviate pain from high heels and nights out dancing. That takes fashion commitment to a whole new level. Be prepared, it is rather more painful than having Botox in your face.

Your feet are very sensitive due to lots of nerve endings and little to no fat, so you feel the needle much more than when having Botox in the face. It’s not a permanent procedure: you would need to go every 6 months or so to keep your feet pain free. For those who wouldn’t dream of wearing flat shoes, this is something that could help you keep your heels on without enduring agony at the end of the day or night. As a side bonus, it also alleviates sweating in the feet too, but that has not yet been FDA approved.

Botox Can Help Eliminate Armpit Sweat

The FDA approved injecting Botox in armpits to alleviate sweat in 2004. And it changed the lives of hundreds of people who were living with excessive sweating and the embarrassment it can bring. Suddenly, people who suffered from excessive sweat or antiperspirant allergies had another option. Botox for armpits is a quick, simple procedure involving little pain and no downtime. It can reduce sweating by up to 87% and lasts from 4 – 12 months, with the longer times coming after multiple procedures.

Botox Can Help Alleviate Tics

For people living with Tourette’s and facial tics, being in public can be emotionally hard. People make judgements and can be cruel to sufferers. Botox has been used to help alleviate specific tics since the late 1980s but has yet to be FDA approved. Yet many studies have researched the benefits of Botox to control tics in the shoulder, neck and around the eyes (such as excessive blinking). However, this is a treatment you should only use after consultation with your doctor.

Many Uses for Botox!

Since the FDA approved Botox for frown lines in 2002, the FDA has approved it for over 10 other treatments including bladder issues, limb spasticity and chronic eye-twitching. We wonder what they will approve it for next!
