Microneedling using the Skinpen technology is a great, minimally invasive way to rejuvenate the skin and reduce the appearance of scarring and imperfections. The Skinpen is the first microneedling device to be given FDA approval and can also be used for acne scarring.
What Is It and How It Works
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, helps to minimize the signs of aging through a minimally invasive procedure that involves the creation of micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The micro-injuries are introduced into the skin using the Skinpen to create hundreds of microscopic channels into the dermis. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.
Patient Experience of Skinpen
The procedure is minimally invasive and doesn’t require a lot of downtime afterwards. Prior to the procedure being performed a topical anesthetic is applied to the area being treated. Most patients report only feeling the slight vibration of the pen during treatment. The treatment takes about 30 minutes depending on the area being treated.
The downtime after the procedure depends on the patient and the area treated. Most patients experience slight swelling and redness/pinkness after the procedure. It has been compared to a mild sunburn that clears up about 2 days after the procedure.
Patients should expect to see results over the course of several weeks. Any extensive damage won’t see immediate results due to the timing of the skin’s natural healing process. Patients may not see the final results of the process until up to six months after the initial procedure. Most patients benefit most from about three rounds of the procedure.
Benefits of Microneedling
The procedure reduces the main signs of aging: skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles. It can also reduce the appearance of acne scarring. It is safe for all skin types and can be used on any area of the body. Take a look at these Before and After photos to see how much Skinpen microneedling can help acned skin.
