Since the beginning of time, humanity has been searching for the fabled Fountain of Youth. We’ve yet to find it, but we have discovered ways to retain our youthful glow into our later years. Facelifts are an excellent way to rejuvenate your skin and turn back the aging clock. Unfortunately, having a facelift is not the endgame for maintaining your youthfulness. Time moves forward as does the natural aging process of your skin. But, there is great news! There are ways to make the results of your facelift last longer!
1. Protect Against the Sun
The number one way to protect skin against aging, with or without a facelift, is to limit exposure to sun. Doctors recommend wearing sunblock with an SPF of 30 to 40 DAILY! It doesn’t matter if you’re planning to go to the beach on a sunny day or working indoors on a cloudy day. SPF is needed to protect your skin against any potential exposure to the sun.
2. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
Healthy skin doesn’t just come from external factors. Your skin requires nourishment from the inside first and foremost. Some important ways to maintain a total body healthy lifestyle are:
- Keep hydrated: this will help your skin stay hydrated and keep wrinkles at bay.
- Maintain weight: extreme fluctuations in weight will stretch skin and make it sag.
- No smoking or excessive alcohol consumption: they can lead to wrinkles.
- Exercising regularly: this helps promote skin elasticity.
- Eat a balanced diet: this ensures that your body has all the nutrients it needs to run as efficiently as possible (this includes your skin!)
3. Professional Skin Care Products
Always use professional skin care products! The FDA regulates them, and they contain higher concentrations of active ingredients (such as peptides, retinoids and antioxidants) than other over-the-counter products do. The higher concentrations allow the products to penetrate deeper into the skin and provide better results. They are only available through a doctor which means that you’ll be able to work with your physician to tailor your skincare routine to protect your facelift.
4. Take Advantage of Cosmetic Treatments
The cosmetic world has many different treatments to offer in between facelifts to prolong the effects of the lift.
Enhancing your lift with injectables, particularly on your upper face areas where the lift is less effective, is an easy way to fill in the appearance of fine lines.
Skin tightening: With state-of-the-art SkinTyte equipment, nonsurgical skin tightening encourages the production of elastin and collagen in the areas treated so you can develop healthier, firmer skin. The SkinTyte laser energy stimulates the body to start producing elastin and collagen, which firms and tightens the skin.
Laser Resurfacing: The aging process typically begins on the upper-most layer of skin, where the cells are the oldest. Laser Resurfacing refinishes the top layer of skin by tightening, toning, reducing wrinkles, evening skin tone and encouraging collagen production.
You may also want to consider getting Botox or Juvederm injections in order to keep your facelift looking fresh!
5. Work with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
As with any other medical procedure, you want to make sure that you have done your research and know all your facts: price points, side effects and results. This includes finding the best plastic surgeon to ensure superior results.
