How To Fix Breast Asymmetry
In the beauty world, many people talk about eyebrows being “Sisters, not twins” in an effort to encourage people in their eyebrow grooming pursuits not to stress over making their eyebrows look identical, but similar. This saying can be easily applied to breast shape in women. It is a common occurrence for women to struggle to find a correct bra size, because their breasts are not 100% exactly proportional. For most women, the left breast is slightly larger than the right breast. For other women, the size difference may be more obvious.
Why are My Breasts Looking Uneven?!
One of the most common reasons for breast asymmetry is breastfeeding, which has the tendency to stretch, and then deflate your boobs. And depending on the position you most commonly nurse your baby in, nursing will change the way your boobs are heading!
The difference is most often not extremely drastic, but in some cases, it really can be very noticeable. A healthy amount of breast asymmetry is normal, and you probably will not need to pursue further help. If you’re despairing of being forever lopsided, with one side so much larger than the other, and there is a dramatic difference, you may be in need of some surgical interventions. A breast augmentation, or breast lift may be the answer to all those asymmetrical battles you find yourself fighting.
Is Breast Augmentation for Me?
You are not a good candidate for a breast augmentation or breast lift to address your asymmetrical boobs if you are young enough that your breasts are still developing. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have more biological children, you should wait until that stage of life is finished, as all the hormones and fluctuating weight can have a negative impact on your surgery results.
Which Breast Procedure is Right for My Asymmetric Breasts?
Once you have decided it’s time to restore your chest to its former glory, book an appointment with a board-certified plastic surgeon that you know and trust. They will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take. Depending on the exact issue that is the root cause of your breast asymmetry, they may recommend a different procedure than you considered before.
For example, if the main reason your breasts are asymmetrical is that one is much larger than the other, your doctor may recommend a breast reduction, to bring the larger breast back down to size. Breast reduction surgery is performed to address overly large breasts that cause a variety of health issues or create a disproportionate shape.
If the issues are because one breast is much droopier than the other, your doctor may suggest a breast lift. A breast lift or mastopexy utilizes modern methods to excise loose skin and raise the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall for a sexy form.
If for any reason, you seek to further enhance the size or shape of your breasts, you can do a breast augmentation in addition to any other treatment. Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that uses saline or silicone implants or a fat transfer to enhance the size and shape of the breasts.
How Will Recovery Be Affected?
No matter which treatment you and your doctor decide is best for you – even if it is a breast augmentation and an additional procedure – the rest and recuperation period post-operation will most likely be the same as a basic breast augmentation recovery. If multiple procedures are necessary (like a breast reduction and breast lift), it makes the most sense to do all the changes at once, so you can enjoy your breasts being restored to their former glory, without having to wait months, or years, to finalize your beautiful look. It will also reduce your overall recovery time.
