How to Boost Your Male Libido
Sex is really great, but loss of sex drive is not. And as both men and women get older, sometimes that sexual drive can decrease and raise concerning questions: “Why don’t I want sex anymore?” “Is something wrong with me?” “Is something wrong with my relationship?” “Why don’t we have sex as often as we used to?”
Fear not, these questions are not uncommon in couples. But, for men who’ve lost libido, these questions can be even more concerning. Loss of libido in men is one of the biggest stressors in relationships, adding a worse effect on marriage than when a woman’s libido is low. When men lose their libido, they tend to feel less masculine, less confident, and less happy according to a study at Chicago University. Not only that, but it can cause women to doubt their own sexiness, potentially causing additional problems between the husband and wife.
Fortunately, there are many solutions that can help men find their sex drive again and get their bedroom game on. Read more to find out!
What Can Cause Low Libido in Men?
Women aren’t the only ones to struggle with hormone imbalance in later life. Men’s hormones will also decrease as they age, causing several issues, such as increased weight, fatigue, muscle loss, and more. Testosterone is the main sexual hormone in men and is the hormone that plays a central role in a man’s sexual desires.
As testosterone diminishes with age, it can cause sexual problems such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and low libido. These issues can lead to much anxiety and stress and interfere with a man’s mental and physical health.
As mentioned above lower levels of testosterone is the main culprit but that isn’t the only hormone imbalance a man can suffer with. High cortisol levels are caused by chronic stress which can then lead to low libido. The Thyroid can also contribute. An underactive thyroid can lead to an increase in the production of prolactin which eats away at testosterone levels. And even estrogen can affect a man’s desire. Too much combined with low testosterone levels can lead to low libido. An inactive lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits can also contribute.
How Can We Treat Low Libido in Men?
To begin with, daily exercise and a healthy diet should be implemented. This will help with blood flow and positive well being. Reduce stress levels by taking breaks from work, maybe meditate, and carve out some leisure time to enjoy with friends and family.
Bioidentical hormone therapy replacement (BHRT), particularly testosterone replacement, has been shown to improve men’s libido levels and help with the other symptoms of andropause. If low libido is getting you down, get your hormone levels tested. Bioidentical hormones are administered via pellets, so there are no worries about remembering a daily tablet or getting messy with creams. They provide consistent levels of hormones throughout the day for up to six months.
Supplements for Libido?
Additionally, there are various supplements that can help men raise their libido. For example, epimedium, more commonly known by the comedic name of “Horny Goat Weed” is a common herbal supplement used for libido that originated primarily from China. While there are limited studies to prove its effectiveness, many swear by its success in helping bedroom performance issues such as erectile dysfunction (ED) and low sexual desire. The chemicals in Horny Goat Weed help with increased blood flow and sexual function, which has helped many men find their sexual desire again.
Ashwagandha is another herb used to increase libido. This shrub originated in India and has been used for hundreds of years to treat various things such as stress and help improve the immune system. But lately, one of the most common uses of ashwagandha has been to treat low libido in men. Because the chemicals in ashwagandha lower stress, increase energy, and raise concentration, it can (by consequence) increase a man’s desire for sex.
