FAQ: Breast Lift Benefits
Sometimes it’s not just our mood that needs a pick-me-up…breasts can use a little perkiness boost here and there too! Gravity’s toll and natural aging both contribute to our breasts gradually getting saggier and saggier. While this is one of the downsides of aging, it’s completely natural. However, if Mother Nature’s natural timeline isn’t exactly what you want for your breasts, there are many ways to help make your breast perkier, rounder, and more youthful!
Read below to learn more about the benefits of breast lifts, what a breast lift does, whether a breast lift is right for you, and other FAQs to see whether this may be the breast boost you need!
How is a Breast Lift Performed?
A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that contours the breasts, trims extra skin, and reshapes the chest to look healthier and younger. There are 3 different techniques to performing a breast lift (depending on your size, shape, and your goal).
Donut-Style: This type of breast lift is for breasts that need an ever-so small lift. The surgeon will make an incision around the areola, which means that there will be minimal (almost invisible) scarring.
Lollipop Lift: This type of lift is ideal for patients who are looking for a medium-sized lift for their breasts. This lift involves a circular incision around the areola and downward toward the breast crease. The incisions make the shape of a lollipop, hence the name.
Anchor-Style: This breast lift is the most popular, as it’s meant for more significant lifts. There are three incisions: one around the areola, one down to the breast crease, and one more horizontally across the crease. This type of lift is also known as the “inverted-T.”
Will a Breast Lift Make My Breasts Larger or Smaller?
While a breast lift will make your breasts look perkier and healthier, it will not change the size of your breasts — that means they will be neither smaller nor larger! However, if you’re looking for larger or smaller breasts, you may be interested in a breast lift + augmentation or a breast reduction. A breast lift reshapes and contours, so if you’re looking for more than that, an augmentation which adds breast implants or a breast reduction which removes tissue would be most ideal for you!
Is a Breast Lift Dangerous?
The breast lift procedure itself isn’t dangerous, although as with any other surgery, there can be complications. Excessive bleeding, bad reaction to anesthesia, infection, and allergic reactions are all risks that any surgery (including breast lift) can pose. If these are a concern for you, then it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor about what medications you’re on, whether you have allergies, and any other concerns you may have.
How Do I Know I Need a Breast Lift?
If your confidence is wavering because of sagging or drooping breasts, then you’re a prime candidate for a breast lift. If your breasts have lost a lot of laxity and have a lot of extra skin, then a breast lift will fix that! If you’d like to see before and after photos of the breast lift procedure, click here. If you’re looking for adding volume, then adding an augmentation to the lift will be precisely what you’re looking for. If you’re ready for a breast lift, make sure you’re at a healthy, good weight to assure that your results are best suited for you!
How Long Does a Breast Lift Last?
A breast lift is a permanent procedure, so it will last a lifetime. However, prime results generally last around 10-15 years, although many patients have reported that their breasts stay contoured far longer than that! The long-term results of a breast lift greatly depend on you — that is, whether you have any sudden weight fluctuations, whether you have children, whether you smoke, and other factors can all affect the breast lift’s longevity and permanency. Talk to your beautician about how you can maintain your new lifted breasts as the years pass for the best results that will always leave you feeling rockin’.
Will a Breast Lift Move My Nipples?
If your breasts are saggy, this often means that your nipples are also sagging or facing downward. In these cases, your surgeon will reposition the nipples to be in the natural center of your breasts during the breast lift. Talk to your surgeon about what options you have and what you’d ideally like for your nipple placement.
How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost?
The average cost of a breast lift ranges from around $4,000-$5,000. This cost does not include anesthesia, medication, post-care, etc — if you would like a closer guesstimate on price, ask your beautician for a quote.
While most breast lifts are not qualified for insurance coverage, talk to your doctor to see whether your insurance may be able to help foot the bill (after all, it doesn’t hurt to try). Nonetheless, most breast lifts are considered cosmetic procedures, not medical.
What Other Benefits Does a Breast Lift Have?
The best benefit of a breast lift is the confidence boost!! Sagging breasts can be an insecurity for women — picking out special clothes to hide breasts, buying special bras, not wanting to be intimate, not wanting to see yourself naked, and feeling self-conscious about breasts in public are all feelings you don’t have to live with! After a breast lift, women feel so much better, so much more confident, and so much younger. Wear the clothes that you feel best in, feel confident about yourself naked, and feel your full, sexy self is the best benefit that a breast lift can offer you.
