Additional Info

Rhinoplasty – Open Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty ( also known as a nose job ) is a procedure that sculpt your nose.

What can you do with a nose job or rhinoplasty?

  • Reduce a dorsal hump
  • Straighten out the nose
  • Refine the nasal tip if it is bulbous
  • Enlarge the nasal tip if it too pointed
  • Reduce the width of the nose
  • Reduce the size of the nostrils
  • Reduce the septum if it is deviated

When is a nonsurgical nose job performed?

The nonsurgical nose job is a procedure I introduced over 20 years ago. I use a facial filler like juvederm, voluma, or radiesse to add volume where it is needed. If the nasal bone height is too low, the filler can be added without the need for surgery, If the nasal tip is too wide, filler can sometimes be used to give the optical illusion of narrowing. If there is a defect such as after a surgical rhinoplasty, filler can be used to camouflage the defect.

What are the 3 techniques that can be used to sculpt the nose?

  • Nonsurgical nose job
  • Open rhinoplasty
  • Closed rhinoplasty

When is a closed rhinoplasty performed?

Closed rhinoplasty is the best procedure when there is no or minimal nasal tip cartilage refinement needed. The tip cartilage is very fine and delicate and therefore benefits from direct visualization of the cartilage that a closed technique cannot provide. It is best for procedures that only require narrowing of the nasal bones or reducing the dorsal hump.

When is an open rhinoplasty performed?

Open rhinoplasty is the best procedure when tip cartilage refinement is needed. The tip cartilage is very fine and delicate and therefore benefits from direct visualization of the cartilage that a closed technique cannot provide. It is performed by adding a small external incision under the nose ( that is not visible ).
